News;
4.22.08; The amount of activeness here has gone way, way, way down in the last couple months. I'm wondering if more people will post if there's an incentive... so, now there is one! Every in-character post that is made before the end of April will earn 20 points for your house. Go start some threads, people!
-Maya

3.25.08; Hi all! Happy (official) spring, and a couple announcements to come with it. You might have noticed that Phoenix Tears is losing members, but hopefully it can be resurrected. So, there is an activity check going on here. If you haven't already, please post there. Inactive members (as of March 31) will be marked as such with a turqoise user color. Also, the status has been changed. It is now a warm, blustery March at Hogwarts. Finally, new point-earning contests have been posted in this thread. The Slytherins have been winning for eons, so go earn your house a better name before the semester ends!
-Maya

[ ]Relationship Plots
Creating a relationship plot is a great way for your character to already have some friends/enemies when you start roleplaying. If you have never made a relationship plot before, just look at the examples and you'll be able to figure it out. This is not required, though it IS fun and suggested.

Within Hogwarts
[ ]Dungeons
The dungeons' reputations have never been great, but honestly they are not as horrible as some make them sound. The walls are lit with flame torches, and water rarely drips from the ceiling. Of course, on nights when the torches have not been lit the halls can get a bit dark, but that's about it. Usually the dungeons are a perfect place to come to be alone and in the peace of silence.

[ ]Entrance Hall
The Entrance Hall has seen thousands of students enter Hogwarts for their very first time, and even more hurry through the halls off to classes. It is here where the four giant hourglasses stand, showing the total points for each house. Students don't usually gather here, but at times they might be found chattering in groups.

[ ]Great Hall
The Great Hall sits beneath an enchanted ceiling that almost makes one feel as though there is no ceiling at all. It changes to reflect weather, seasons, and moods. Beneath the ceiling are positioned four great tables, where students flock to study at, chat, and consume their three daily meals prepared to perfection by the castle's house elves.

[ ]Library
Need to study for that nasty test in Potions next week? The library can help you out with all your essay-writing, test-studying, and pleasure reading needs. Stocked with shelves and shelves of books, the library is a sort of haven for oh-so-many. Tables nestle themselves together convieniently in the center, too; the perfect place to read and work in near silence.

[ ]Classes
This is a school, and schools do have class, unfortunately. Attend regularly and don't be late - an angry professor means detention for you and falling behind. Show off your amazing skill for brewing potions, or hope your teacher doesn't throttle you when you blow up your feather in Charms. If you excel, you might even pick up some valuable house points.

[ ]Room of Requirement
Although this place was scarred badly by Fiendfyre, the Room of Requirement is nonetheless still standing and working. It is an excellent place to hide things (and since the fire newer items have found their way into the room) or to hold secret meetings that are against school rules. Walk in front of the entrance three times thinking hard about what you want, and if you are lucky the room will reveal itself to you.

[ ]Hospital Wing
Been in a duel, have you? Been taking illegal potions? Quidditch injury? Whatever ails you, Madam Pompfrey is sure to fix you up with her various healing methods and potions. Mind you, some of the potions taste rather nasty, so try not to get into too much trouble.

[ ]Owlery
It's a long walk up stairs, but once you reach this /smelly/ but pleasant tower you will behold an amazing view of the grounds. That's not the reason for the owlery's existance, however, and it is actually home to hundreds of messenger owls. Come up here to send off letters to friends and family, or just visit the owls and inhale plush feathers.

Common Rooms
[ ]Gryffindor
This is the common room for the famous Gryffindor house. Where the brave and courageous are, as they say. After a tiring day of spells and books, Gryffindors can come to the common room to relax in front of the fire, chat with their friends, or brag about how they totally owned in quidditch class.

[ ]Hufflepuff
When one's tired out and ready for some relaxation time, he can retire to this Common Room to chill out and bond with friends. Only, of course, if he is a Hufflepuff however. Most of this house is pretty close, because typically Hufflepuffs value friendship above so much else.

[ ]Ravenclaw
When overworked brains need a rest, the Ravenclaw common room is the place to come. With shelves full of books, tables for studying and homework, and of course comfortable navy blue arm chairs to relax in, this place is the sanctuary and haven for Ravenclaw students.

[ ]Slytherin
After a tiring day of DaDA and Potions, those ambitious and sly enought to be Slytherins can step inside their common room and attempt to relax. This group can be rather loud sometimes, however, and often the common room is alive with the sound of party games and music.

[ ]Courtyard
Complete with benches, picnic tables, tall leafy trees, and well-kept flowers, the courtyard is a common place for students to gather together. It's a tidy place that provides a nice setting for homework or simple chats, and often hosts clusters of teenagers in between classes.

The area around the Black Lake has seen many young, studious wizards and young couples alike. Come to the lake to study or unwind. You might even catch a glimpse of the Giant Squid breaking the surface of the dark lake.

[ ]Gardens
The Herbology classes' pride, the Gardens are full of beautiful and exotic plants. With tidy dirth pathways winding through the growth and small fences separating the plants from the students, it can be quite pleasant to walk through. Don't loose your common sense and touch something though; not all the plants grown here are innocent little flowers.

[ ]Quidditch Pitch
Do you have a Chaser's blood in you? Think you have what it takes to beat a Bludger? Well get over here and try out for your house's Quidditch team. Team practices will take place quite often, and the entire school will gather to the stands when a match is held. It takes skill and courage to be a good Quidditch player; do you have it in you?

[ ]Forbidden Forest
Dark, mysterious, and dangerous, the Forbidden Forest is off-limits to students, but when has anyone ever listened to that? If you do decide to be a rebel and venture into its depths anyway, beware the creatures that have made it their home. Centuars, thestrals, and unicorns all wander the forest, and it has even been rumored that a giant once dwelled here.

[ ]Hogsmeade
Spend your weekends here in the snowy little villa that is Hogsmeade. Enjoy a Butterbeer with friends at the Three Broomsticks, or surprise yourself with a little treat from Honeydukes. You might also want to grab a few tricks while you’re at Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. By chance, you may also find yourself in the company of the grimy Hog’s Head. There’s much to do, much to see, and much to explore. Only students who are third-years or higher may visit Hogsmeade.

[ ]St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries
Occasionally Madam Pompfrey will come across something she cannot fix, and a trip to St. Mungo's is required. Here you will be cared for by only the best in healing, and you'll be back on your feet before you know it! Well, hopefully anyway...that's assuming all goes well. Some spells and potions simply can't be reversed.
